About the Area

Gran Alacant is located only 15 minutes from Alicante International Airport and is a popular holiday destination in the southern part of the Alicante province. Gran Alacant has been built around the green area of Cabo Santa Pola and Carabasi beach. Las Dunas del Carabassí, is Gran Alacant's most important beach with blue flag, golden sand and turquoise water. This coastal area is extremely popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing and paragliders have also found their heaven with a mountain ridge that runs along the sea and which provides the right winds. The area between Gran Alacant and Santa Pola is very popular with joggers, cyclists and others. There is no golf course in Gran Alacant but 20 minutes away by car there is, for example, Club de Golf Alenda. The island "La Isla de Tabarca" is the only inhabited island and is located near Santa Pola. It is actually a small archipelago that includes the islands of La Cantera, La Galera and La Nao as well as Isla de Tabarca itself. Once upon a time, this was a haven for Berber pirates and in the 19th century, King Carlos III ordered the island to be fortified and a city of Tabarca was built.

A visit to the island is recommended and boats leave from both Alicante and Santa Pola.

Gran Alacant has a Mediterranean climate all year round, with an average temperature of 18C degrees.
