The most famous resort town south of Alicante is Torrevieja, which has been transformed from an old fishing village into a modern medium-sized town in the last few decades. With more than 100,000 inhabitants, Torrevieja has doubled its population over the past 30 years. In the northern part of Torrevieja, lies Torre La Mata which boasts its long promenade lined with restaurants and nightclubs.
