Guardamar del Segura is a cozy and genuine Spanish village that stretches along the long and very popular sand dunes, only half an hour from Alicante. The area is also known for the fine pine forests which are well worth a hike. There are plenty of shops in Guardamar. On the main street, which runs throughout the village, is a large selection of clothing and shoe stores. There are also many smaller shops that get fresh fruits and vegetables every day.
Every Wednesday, it's time for the local market between 9-14. The market extends all the way through the city's cozy back streets. Here you can find clothes, shoes, fruit and vegetables, and buy lunch from one of the popular rotisserie chicken stands.
Guardamar has an award-winning and well-maintained beach that stretches for 14 kilometers along the coast. Here are small chiringuitos (beach bars) spaced out regularly, where you can have lunch or have a cool drink during the hot days of the year. At each beach bar there are toilets for beach visitors. Along the long promenade there is also a large selection of restaurants, bars and shops. During the summer, the beach is equipped with lifeguards for assistance and security. At the Red Cross station there is a part of the beach that is handicap accessible with staff who can help assist with swimming.
In Guardamar lies the mouth of the river Rio Segura, from which comes the name Guardamar del Segura. The river creates a lovely environment where there is much to see and do. In northern Guardamar you can visit the fine and very well maintained harbor, and why not take the opportunity to enjoy the nice seafood restaurant overlooking the fine boats?
Getting to the airport takes about 30 minutes by car. There is also a bus station in Guardamar, from where airport buses run to Alicante Airport every day.
