Living in Torrevieja Center

The most famous resort town south of Alicante is Torrevieja, which has been transformed from an old fishing village into a modern medium-sized town in the last few decades. With more than 100,000 inhabitants, Torrevieja has doubled its population over the past 30 years. In addition to fine sandy beaches, bays and beautiful beach walks, there is a large selection of shops, restaurants and bars as well as a rich nightlife.

Torreviejas' center is contemporary and modern. It is located in front of the beach and the marina of the city. The Plaza de la Constitución is the main axis of the center, where the town hall and the church of the Immaculate Conception are located, built with the stone of the Old Tower, from which the name of the city comes. Near the square is the Torrevieja Casino, built in 1896 and in a modernist style, where the façade with a neon-Nazari canopy stands out. It is one of the most popular terraces for Torrevejenses and tourists. 

Around the square are the most commercial streets of the city and the museums. You can visit the food market, known as "La Plasa", a good place to buy fresh products from the sea and the orchard of Bajo Segura; and the Museum of the Sea and Salt, the most important in the city because it reflects its origins and the importance of salt in its history. 

Torrevieja is located 36 km south of Alicante Airport and people from all over the world have been attracted here for various reasons, primarily the healthy climate with 320 days of sunshine a year, but also the opportunities offered by a multicultural tourist paradise.
