San Pedro is located in the municipality of Marbella and has become very popular in recent years. One driving factor has been the construction of the tunnel under the city which removed motorway traffic.
A boulevard with playgrounds and bars has also been built, which has become a popular meeting place for both locals and tourists.
The promenade between San Pedro and Puerto Banús has several nice beach restaurants, bars, outdoor gyms and playgrounds for children.

In the early 2000s, a new area in San Pedro began to emerge called Nueva Alcantara. It takes about 45 minutes by car to Malaga airport.
