Fish and seafood are delivered fresh every day and sausages and meat are produced in the mountains near Alicante. In El Barrio, the old town, tapas restaurants are crowded and here you can eat many small tasty dishes, fresh bread, olives and cheeses etc. In these neighborhoods there are also discos that open late at night.
The airport is about 15 minutes from the city centre and is easy to get to by bus or car. The easiest way to get around the city is by bus, taxi or tram. City buses run to all areas of the city and to the suburbs of Alicante, and trams depart from the central station Mercado in the direction of San Juan beach and the coastal town of El Campello, and also connect to the “Trenet” (narrow gauge train) which runs along the coast north of Alicante and to Benidorm and Denia. The “Trenet” is popular with visitors due to the fantastic scenery along the way. Madrid can be reached in 2 hours and 15 minutes by high-speed train.
